TUGETA
or
What kind of “social sculpture” would it be if people met at one location once a year to intonate an A together?

(44', premiere: May 23, 2021 ORF Ö1 “Radiokunst – Kunstradio”)

TUGETA - Bislama for “together” - is a 44-minute composition for 44 musicians. * They each contributed a sample in which they played, sang, modulated, altered and rhythmized A-notes (from A0 to A5).
The result is a delicate, multi-layered, minimalistic audio piece.

Besides Austria, the musicians in TUGETAKESTRA - Tugetaorchestra - are from Taiwan, Finland, USA, Hawaii, Scotland, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Mexico and Slovenia. *

The piece is part of a series of works by Wolfgang Temmel, based on the principle of “social composing”. Temmel summed up this principle, which through the organizational process itself generates a binding aesthetic form, in the phrase: “Separately I am, together we are.” It embodies Temmel’s efforts to methodically interweave individuality and community via the medium of art.
