There is no way to experience the scenic beauty of North Korea
by traveling around the country. Yet it is possible to overcome the
inaccessibility of this situation by using technical means (satellite imagery).
Google Earth allows us to travel in virtual space.
Wolfgang Temmel explores a way of experiencing nature through a
medium when he paints “en plein screen” and produces with painterly
sophistication conventional landscapes of North Korea. In that moment,
he transfers the classical medium of painting to the context of media art.
Then, in the anachronism of painting as a medium, the political dimension
of the initial situation becomes clear
